The global steel industry, responsible for 7% of global CO2 emissions, urgently needs to decarbonise to align with climate change goals. This project aims to develop a cost-effective CO2 capture process using membranes for blast furnace/hot stove gases, accounting for 70% of emissions in iron making. The innovative membrane technology offers advantages including a small footprint, easy operation, and low energy consumption. By integrating seamlessly into existing steel production facilities, this method enhances efficiency while reducing capital investments and space requirements. If successful, the project will revolutionise the steel industry's approach to carbon neutralisation, making it energy-efficient and sustainable.
